“Arise, shine; for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you…
The Gentiles shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.”
(Isaiah 60:1–3)
We are not called to be wallpaper in this world.
We are called to be light.
Not a tiny flicker hiding in a corner, but light that shines so clearly that people can actually see their way towards God, purpose, healing and freedom because of your obedience.
Here is a sobering truth:
When my light stops shining, there are people I cannot reach.
As you grow, God sends people to you – people your story, your skills, your anointing, your testimony are designed to touch. But if you stay small, if you stay stuck, if you stay dim… some of those connections never happen.
And there’s another dimension:
Isaiah 60 talks about Gentiles coming to your light and kings coming to the brightness of your rising.
That means there are levels to your light.
You can stay at a “Gentiles” level – reaching only the circles of comfort you’ve always known.
Or you can grow until even “kings” – leaders, decision-makers, influencers, people with authority and reach – are drawn to the brightness of your rising.
You can remain with Gentiles.
Or you can grow to attract kings.
The question is: Do I want to grow that much?
And if yes, how do I attract kings?
It starts with a mindset shift.
Light Levels: Gentiles and Kings
When the Bible says “Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising”, it is painting a picture of increasing influence.
Gentiles here can represent everyday people around you – family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, those in your immediate environment.
Kings represent rulers, gatekeepers, industry leaders, the people who make decisions that affect many others.
Some of us are faithful at the Gentile level:
We encourage friends.
We pour into our family.
We help a few people at church.
That’s beautiful, and it matters. But if we stay there because of fear, laziness, or small thinking, we may never step into the dimension where kings are drawn to the brightness of our rising.
“Kings” don’t just come because you are nice.
They come when your light is bright enough, your excellence is sharp enough, and your mindset is large enough to serve them.
Who Do I Want to Serve?
This is one of the biggest mindset shifts you must make:
Who do I want to serve, and am I growing to be able to serve them well?
If God sends you:
A CEO
A government leader
A high-net-worth investor
A senior pastor
A well-known creative
A broken but influential person with a platform
…would your current capacity, mindset, communication, structure, and spiritual depth be enough to serve them well?
Or would you shrink internally because you only ever prepared to reach “Gentiles” level?
God is not unfair.
He will not send you people you refuse to grow to handle.
Scenarios: How Bright Is Your Light… Really?
Let’s make this practical with a few scenarios so you can see yourself clearly.
1. The Young Professional in the Office
You are a junior staff member who loves Jesus. You encourage a few colleagues, pray for them quietly, and share a verse on your WhatsApp status occasionally. That’s good “Gentile level” light.
But what if God wants you to one day influence directors and shape policies in that organisation?
To attract “kings” in that context, you can’t remain sloppy with time-keeping, mediocre with your work, or emotionally reactive. Your light has to grow in:
Excellence in your role
Emotional maturity
Strategic thinking
Courage to speak when necessary
As you grow, suddenly a senior manager notices, “There’s something different about you.” That’s a king being drawn to the brightness of your rising.
2. The Mother at Home
You’re a mum pouring into your children, praying for them, teaching them truth. Your light is shining in your home; that’s beautiful and powerful.
But what if God also wants to use your story, your journey through motherhood, loss, trauma, healing, or breakthrough to reach other mothers, parents, even policy-makers in education or family spaces?
To move from “just my kids” to “other families” and even “kings” in that area, you may need to:
Heal from your own childhood wounds
Learn to articulate your story clearly
Develop resources (blogs, books, groups, courses)
Build confidence to sit on panels, speak at events, or advise leaders
As your capacity expands, God can send you not just one child to influence, but generations.
3. The Business Owner / Entrepreneur
You run a small business. You serve local clients well, pray over your business, and tithe faithfully. That’s light at a foundational level.
But there’s also a call on you to sit with investors, high-level partners, or even kings in your industry.
To attract “kings” in business, you can’t remain at:
Scattered pricing
No systems
Poor branding
Reactive cashflow management
You must grow in:
Strategy and structure
Financial literacy
Branding and communication
Leadership and people skills
As you become more excellent, the level of client you attract changes. Your light is now bright enough for kings to notice.
4. The Pastor / Ministry Leader
You’re faithful with your congregation. You preach, you counsel, you visit. Your light is touching the people in your church.
But what if God wants to use you to influence other pastors, communities, or even leaders in government?
That requires:
Deep rootedness in the Word
Strong character (no hidden double life)
A mindset that goes beyond “my little church”
Ability to speak to culture, systems, and structures, not just individuals
As you grow in wisdom, breadth and maturity, kings may seek your counsel without you chasing them.
5. The Young Person / Student / Teen
You love God but feel small. Maybe you only influence your friends on Snapchat, TikTok, or in your classroom.
What if God wants to use you to one day influence media, technology, education, or even nations?
That might mean:
Taking your studies seriously
Learning skills that matter (communication, tech, languages, leadership)
Saying no to compromise in relationships
Being intentional about who you follow and learn from
Your light at 17 may seem small, but if you keep growing, you may sit before kings at 35.
Why Some of Us Stay at Gentile Level
Let’s be honest. Many of us stay at “Gentile” level because:
“Kings” intimidate us.
We secretly feel unworthy.
We don’t want to do the inner and outer work.
We spiritualise laziness: “If God wants it, He will do it,” while we refuse to grow.
Your assignment is bigger than your comfort zone.
When my light stops growing, my reach stops growing.
When my reach stops growing, there are people I can no longer touch.
God keeps sending bigger assignments to those who keep enlarging their capacity.
So, How Do I Attract Kings?
Not by chasing them.
But by becoming the kind of person who can serve them.
Here are some key shifts:
1. Identity Shift: See Yourself as Light
Stop seeing yourself as “just a…”
“Just a mum”
“Just a junior staff”
“Just a small business”
“Just a church member”
Jesus said, “You are the light of the world.” Not a light—the light.
Internalise that. Own it.
2. Clarity: Decide Who You Want to Serve
Ask yourself:
Who are the “Gentiles” I currently serve?
Who are the “kings” I feel a tug to serve in the future?
What kind of people do I feel burdened for—creatives, executives, youths, families, nations?
Write it down. Name it.
Light is more powerful when it is focused.
3. Capacity: Grow to Serve Them Well
This is where many people stop. They want the platform, but not the preparation.
If you feel called to serve:
Kings in business → grow in strategy, structure, financial intelligence and excellence.
Kings in ministry → deepen your theology, character, prophetic sensitivity and leadership.
Kings in government or systems → understand policy, people, communication and negotiation.
Don’t just pray for “more influence.” Grow for more influence.
4. Excellence: Let Your Work Preach
Kings are not moved by lip service; they are moved by results, excellence and wisdom.
Let what you produce, your work, your service, your writing, your products, your delivery, be so excellent that it quietly commands respect before you say “Jesus” to them.
5. Intimacy: Guard Your Oil
At the core, your light is not self-powered. It comes from the oil of His presence: prayer, the Word, worship, obedience.
The brighter your external light, the deeper your internal life must be.
Because influence without intimacy is dangerous. You may reach kings and then misrepresent the King.
Don’t Let Your Light Go Out
There are people in the “crowd” level who need your light.
There are people in the “kings” level who also need your light.
You are not responsible for putting yourself on every platform.
But you are responsible for:
Stewarding your growth
Honouring your process
Saying “yes” to God’s stretching
Not settling at Gentile level when He’s calling you higher
Your light is not about you being seen.
It is about people being reached.
